Chemical Peels with Dermafix
Chemical peeling involves the use of chemical agents to “wound” the skin – in a controlled environment. The healing of a wound is a complex process whereby new tissue is constructed in the process and damaged tissue is replaced, making the skin look and feel better than before the “wound”.
Skin conditions best suited to peeling:
- Aged – peeling encourages cellular renewal and improves skin texture
Acne congestion – encourages deep cleansing of follicles and removes dead skin cell build-up - Hyperpigmentation – Peeling used with selected home care may improve hyperpigmentation
- Lightly scarred or stretch-marked skin – Peeling encourages cell renewal and lifts off of damaged skin cells
How often can I have a peel?
Peels can be performed as often as every 4 weeks for badly sun damaged skin and extensive blackheads and whiteheads. We recommend 4-6 peels for maximum effectiveness
How long does the treatment take?
Approximately 45 to 60 minutes depending on the peel you are doing

What does my skin look like after a peel?
Immediately after skin will look a little sunburned, then it will start to look darker in days 2 and 3, the skin will then start to peel by days 5 to 7, the skin will have completely undergone a light peel (peeling may vary from person to person)
Does my skin colour make a difference?
Darker skin types must be pre-treated. Dermafix peels can be safely used on skin type one to five – with the correct care
Can I go into the Sun after a peel?
The safe answer is NO, however if you protect your skin with a broad spectrum sunscreen SPF45 to 50 then Yes – however reapplication of sunscreen regularly is imperative.
Can I have a peel if i am using Retin A, AHA's, Microdermabrasion or laser?
Very important to inform your skin care professional.
Can I have a peel if I am using Accutane or any other Medical treatment?
Skin does not heal well when undergoing certain Medical treatments. Wait 3 to 6 months (depending on dosage) after you have completed your treatment course, otherwise check with your medical professional.
Can I have a peel if I am prone to cold sores?
Yes, however you must be on and oral course of herpes medication 5 days prior to your peel

Dermapen
Dermapen’s advanced skin needling technology uses multiple needles that vertically pierce the skin with an automated vibrating function. When the Dermapen is moved across the skin’s surface it stimulates natural collagen reproduction, whilst allowing fine channels to be created to the deeper layers of the skin. The channels can carry up to 80% more topical nutrients, allowing for treatment delivery deep into the skin’s fibroblasts to feed the underlying cells in the dermis and basal layer. This increased absorption of active ingredients into the skin creates stimulated repair and faster-resurfacing results. Advanced skin needling promotes scar-less healing and the deposition of normal woven collagen, similar to fractional laser treatments but without the side effects and downtime.
Unlike traditional skin needling rollers, the Dermapen causes less trauma (controlled trauma) and has minimal epidermal (skin) damage, therefore reducing pain and discomfort and making it a safer, more effective treatment. What is Dermapen?
The Dermapen® is an automated micro-needling device with a disposable tip cartridge that is made up of 12 micro-needles, which uses proprietary technology to penetrate vertically into the skin. The stamping action of the Dermapen’s vertical tip creates invisible micro-injuries to the skin, while stimulating the skin’s natural ability to heal itself and increase the production of new collagen. Topical anaesthesia cream is applied prior to the treatment, this renders the treatment pain free
How will my skin feel?
The week post treatment your skin will feel tight, some may experience light peeling, this will all dissipate by 5 to 7 days post treatment
What is the down time?
The day of your treatment your skin will be red and feel “sunburnt”, this will calm down a few hours after treatment
When can I wear makeup?
You can wear makeup the day after treatment
How soon after filler injections can i have Dermapen done?
It is recommended to wait at least 4 days after filler injections, so that any post treatment bruising from the fillers can settle. Or have your Dermapen treatment before filler injections.
